The Great Gatsby NNE Assignment
Read The Great
Gatsby for 30 minutes.
Create an NNE chart for 10 literary devices found in
the chapters thus far. Example below:
Noticed Text: “He was
everything I scorned, but he was completely exempt from my judgment. He was
gorgeous.” – Nick
Name of literary device: Irony and paradox
Effect on Meaning: Though Nick opposed the great wealth and
everything Gatsby possessed, he could tell Gatsby was different from those on
the East Egg that had corrupt morals and pretentious ways about them. It is
ironic that Nick finds such admiration for a man who goes against everything he
stands for, and it is a puzzle (paradoxical) as to why he feels so strongly
about him.
